Surgery Center

With its own private entrance and parking lot, the Rush-Copley Outpatient Center is both convenient and easily accessible. These traits, characteristic of freestanding surgery centers, are joined with the back-up and comprehensive services of an inpatient hospital setting.

The Center combines the latest in medical technology with the comfort of private rooms, many with large windows that allow natural light to flow in, to encourage wellness. Best of all, the family waiting area is located just steps away so family members can stay close by.

Day Surgery

The Day Surgery area within the Surgery Center contains 24 private rooms, giving families the chance to be together before and after surgery. A centrally located nurses' station enables staff to closely monitor patients.

Patients who receive light anesthetics or sedation -- and who are expected to go home the same day -- will receive care in this area before and after their procedures. Patients requiring general anesthetics for their procedures will be prepared in these rooms and will return to the appropriate care center after their initial recovery in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit.

Endoscopy and GI Services:  The American Cancer Society recommends everyone over age 50 be screened for colon cancer. Physicians affiliated with Rush-Copley perform colonoscopy and gastroscopy procedures for early detection of cancer and other digestive diseases.

The Day Surgery area has a special room dedicated to the diagnosis of digestive diseases and disorders, including ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome and gallstones.

Minor Treatment Rooms:  Patients who require local anesthetics for minor procedures are treated in a private treatment room, with a recliner, bathroom facilities and television.

Operating Rooms:  Rush-Copley has 12 operating rooms, with the latest in anesthesia, laparoscopic and laser equipment. Specialty rooms are dedicated to open-heart surgery and urological procedures. The operating rooms are designed to grow as technology expands in the future.

Pre-Admission Testing:  You may be contacted by our pre-admission nursing staff who will guide you through any tests required by your physician prior to your surgery. Laboratory tests, X-rays or other diagnostic tests, such as electrocardiograms, can be completed in Rush-Copley's Outpatient Center.

Post Anesthesia Care Unit:  Patients whose surgeries require general anesthetics are brought to this unit to recover under the care of specially-trained registered nurses. Patients are then be moved to a private room in Day Surgery or to the appropriate care center to continue their recovery.

Surgery Family Waiting: Complicated surgeries can take time. The hospital provides a comfortable family waiting area where light snacks and coffee are provided. Staffed by a volunteer who can provide reports on patients' progress, the reception area contains ample seating, soft lighting and plenty of reading materials. An outside patio with seating is nearby.

Rush-Copley's gift shop, The Glass Promenade, is right around the corner from family waiting. Feel free to visit the shop - beepers are available from the volunteer should you choose to leave the waiting area.
